• Hostel: The IIT Kanpur campus houses the Halls of Residence which are at a short distance from the academic block. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur Admission 2020: UG, PG, MBA, Ph.D

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur or IIT Kanpur was established in 1959. It offers various UG, PG, Integrated and Research courses in Engineering, Science, Management, and Design. The Institute offers a Bachelor's degree in 13 disciplines of Engineering and Sciences along with Master's degree in more than 25 disciplines of Engineering, Applied Science and Design. IIT Kanpur admits students to B.Tech, B.S, and dual degree courses through Joint Entrance Examination JEE Advanced, and through JAM for M.Sc programs.

• Candidates who have secured at least 75% marks in class 12th examination conducted by the respective boards are eligible for B.Tech and B.S programs.
• A valid score in JEE Main is required to secure admission in the B.Tech and B.S programs.
• For admission to M.Tech or MS (by Research), the applicant must have a bachelor's degree in engineering or science or a master's degree in science with marks/CPI.
• A valid GATE score is required for admission to the M.Tech./ MS (by Research) program in the case of regular (non-sponsored) candidates.
• Admission to M.Des. the course is offered on the basis of score of CEED.
• For MBA Course, students are selected on the basis of their performance in CAT followed by Group Discussion and Interview conducted by IIT Kanpur.
• Reservation criteria for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PD candidates shall apply as per Government of India rules.
• Students who are in the final year of their program may also apply to the institute and secure provisional admission.
• Indian nationals can apply only through online mode of application whereas foreign candidates can apply only through offline mode.

Important Dates

Financial Assistance: For M.Tech, M.Des and MS (Research) programs, students will receive the monthly stipend of INR 12,400 for 8 hours of work per week.

• No GATE score is mandatory for M.B.B.S. candidates and B.Tech. graduates from IITs (minimum overall CGPA of 6.5 and a minimum CGPA of 8.0 in the last two years)
• Final year students can also appear for the program as they will be getting a provisional admission. Final admission will be completed once the candidate produces the proof of having appeared in final examinations on the day of registration. 
• Candidates working in an R & D research lab could be considered for admission for M.Tech./M.Des./M.S. by Research programs. They could be sponsored by his/her employer and must have been in employment in the organization for at least 2 years. 
• Part-time postgraduate programs are also offered for employed people such as working engineers, scientists and teachers who can attend classes as per schedule of the Institute. They need to produce an undertaking by the employers that they will maintain a proper attendance record and cooperate with course instructor. 
• Employees of IIT Kanpur (project or regular) can also take admission into part-time MTech./M.Des/M.S. by Research/Ph.D program. The candidate must have a valid GATE/ CEED/ CAT/ GMAT/ JRF (NET in the case of Ph.D. program in HSS) score at the time of seeking admission. 
• Candidates having a degree in Fine Arts or Interior Design will not be eligible to apply for the M.Design program. 

Financial Assistance: For Ph.D., the students with corresponding financial assistance (for Engg./Sciences/Social Sciences) is INR 25,000 for the first two-year and thereafter it is raised to INR 28,000 respectively for another two-year.

Students may also avail financial assistantship from external funding agencies (such as UGC, CSIR, NBHM, DIETY, DBT, INSPIRE etc.

Ph.D. applicants must arrange two letters of reference as well. For this purpose, the names of the referees along with their e-mails addresses are to be provided by the candidates in the online applications portal.

Note: For admission in Ph.D. in Biological Sciences and Bio-engineering, applicants with a Master's degree in Pharmacy/Medicine/Veterinary Science with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum, or Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy/Medicine/Veterinary Science with a minimum of 75%marks or 7.5 CPI, may also be considered.

How To Apply For IIT Kanpur?

Candidates applying for B.Tech and BS programs need to apply through the Centralized admission process conducted by JoSAA on the basis of JEE score. There is no initial registration fee for choice filling.

For PG and Ph.D. programs, the candidates can apply by visiting the official website of IIT, Kanpur. The Application fee of INR 400 (INR 200 for SC/ST/PWD) is required to be paid through Payment Gateway via Net Banking / Credit or Debit Card.
